How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually start with 15 mg daily, divided into 3 doses. The dose can be increased to 30-80 mg per day, divided into 2-4 doses.

Method

Take the tablets with meals and swallow them with liquid. Tablets can be broken if needed.

Important

For children under 8 years, the maximum daily dose is 40 mg. For children over 8 years, it is 60 mg. For adults, the usual maximum daily dose is 80 mg, but a doctor might prescribe more.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy or drowsy
  • Feeling sick (nausea) or vomiting
  • Dizziness or feeling lightheaded
  • Tiredness or fatigue
  • Headache
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Weakness in arms and legs, muscle pain
  • Eye twitching or uncontrolled eye movements
  • Dry mouth
  • Stomach problems like constipation or diarrhea
  • Gagging
  • Skin rash, excessive sweating
  • Increased need to urinate, bedwetting
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Confusion
  • Feeling extremely happy for no clear reason
  • Feeling sad or depressed
  • Problems with balance, walking, arm/leg movements, or speech (ataxia)
  • Shaking (tremors)
  • Seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations)
  • Bad dreams (nightmares)
  • Blurred vision or other vision problems
  • Shortness of breath, swollen legs, and tiredness (signs of heart problems)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Difficulty or pain when urinating, or a sudden decrease in how much you urinate
  • Seizures (especially in people with epilepsy)
RARE
  • Stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes, and tiredness (signs of liver problems)
  • Low body temperature
  • Hives (itchy red bumps on the skin)
  • Allergic reaction (hypersensitivity)
  • Slow heartbeat
  • Withdrawal symptoms (from suddenly stopping Lioresal)
  • Tingling or numbness in hands and/or feet
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Changes in taste
  • Sudden decrease in the amount of urine
  • Erectile dysfunction (difficulty getting or keeping an erection)
  • High blood sugar
  • Breathing problems during sleep (sleep apnea)
  • Reduced brain function (encephalopathy)
  • Swelling in ankles, feet or lower legs
  • Swelling in the face
  • Hair loss
  • Sexual difficulties

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Lioresal if you are allergic to baclofen or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have mental health issues like confusion, depression, or thoughts of harming yourself.
  • Tell your doctor if you have epilepsy or have had seizures.
  • Inform your doctor if you have stomach or bowel pain, breathing problems, liver or kidney problems, a stroke, or diabetes.
  • Do not drive or use machines if Lioresal makes you feel dizzy, sleepy, or causes vision problems.

  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as stopping too quickly can make your condition worse.
  • Lioresal tablets are not suitable for children weighing less than 33 kg.
  • Do not drink alcohol while you are taking Lioresal.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist you are taking Lioresal before any surgery, including dental procedures, or in an emergency.
  • If you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include sedation, confusion, depression, nightmares, muscular weakness and hypotension. Increases risk of falls. (updated 16.9.2024)
