Lioresal is used to relax muscles and reduce muscle stiffness (spasms), helping to improve movement and lessen pain.
Adults usually start with 15 mg daily, divided into 3 doses. The dose can be increased to 30-80 mg per day, divided into 2-4 doses.
Take the tablets with meals and swallow them with liquid. Tablets can be broken if needed.
For children under 8 years, the maximum daily dose is 40 mg. For children over 8 years, it is 60 mg. For adults, the usual maximum daily dose is 80 mg, but a doctor might prescribe more.
Avoid use in older adults. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include sedation, confusion, depression, nightmares, muscular weakness and hypotension. Increases risk of falls. (updated 16.9.2024)
