How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, the usual starting dose is 5-20 mg once daily; for heart failure, it's 2.5 mg once daily. The usual maintenance dose for both is 20 mg daily.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 40 mg in a single day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness, weakness, or feeling unwell
  • Blurred vision
  • Cough
  • Headache
  • Dizziness due to low blood pressure
  • Changes in heart rhythm, fast heartbeats, or chest pain
  • Depression or fainting
  • Taste changes
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea or stomach pain
  • Tiredness
  • Skin rash or less severe allergic reactions
  • High levels of potassium or creatinine in blood (seen in tests)
RARE
  • Sudden drop in blood pressure, heart attack, or stroke
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count)
  • Confusion, sleeplessness, drowsiness, or nervousness
  • Tingling or numbness in the skin
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Runny nose or sore throat
  • Digestion problems, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth, or stomach ulcer
  • Muscle cramps
  • Kidney problems or kidney failure
  • Increased sweating, itching, or hair loss
  • Impotence
  • Raynaud's phenomenon (cold and pale fingers and toes due to poor blood flow)
  • Changes in blood tests, such as low red or white blood cells, or bone marrow problems
  • Swollen glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  • Strange dreams or sleep problems
  • Fluid or other substances in the lungs
  • Inflammation of the nose, lungs, cheeks, gums, tongue, lips, or throat
  • Reduced urine output
  • Severe skin reactions, such as target-shaped rashes, peeling skin, or blisters
  • Liver or gallbladder problems, or jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)
  • Enlarged breasts in men
  • Swelling in the gut (intestinal angioedema)
  • A syndrome including fever, inflammation of blood vessels, muscle pain, joint pain, and skin reactions

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking Linatil and contact a doctor immediately if you experience swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or have difficulty breathing or swallowing.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant (especially after the first 3 months) or planning to become pregnant, as it can harm the baby.
  • Do not use if you are taking medicines containing aliskiren (for diabetes/kidney problems) or sacubitril/valsartan (for heart failure), due to serious risks.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you develop swollen hands, feet, or ankles, or red, itchy skin rashes.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
