How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, the usual starting dose is 5-20 mg once daily. For heart failure, the starting dose is 2.5 mg once daily. Your doctor will adjust your dose as needed.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth with water. You can take it with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 40 mg. It is taken once or twice daily depending on your condition.

  • Dizziness, weakness, or feeling unwell
  • Blurred vision

  • Headache

  • Changes in taste
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fatigue
  • Rash
  • Changes in heart rhythm, fast heart rate, or chest pain
  • Changes in blood test results (e.g., potassium, creatinine)
RARE
  • Sudden swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, causing difficulty breathing or swallowing (Angioedema)
  • Swelling of hands, feet, or ankles
  • Red, itchy bumps on the skin (hives)
  • Sudden drop in blood pressure (causing light-headedness or dizziness)
  • Fast or irregular heartbeats (palpitations)
  • Heart attack or stroke (due to very low blood pressure)
  • Anemia (low red blood cells)
  • Confusion, sleeplessness, drowsiness, or nervousness
  • Tingling or numbness of the skin
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Runny nose, sore throat, or hoarseness
  • Stomach problems like nausea, vomiting, indigestion, constipation, dry mouth, or stomach ulcer
  • Muscle cramps
  • Worsening kidney function or kidney failure
  • Increased sweating, itching, or hair loss
  • General feeling of being unwell, fever, or impotence
  • Severe skin reactions (e.g., redness, blistering, or peeling skin)
  • Liver or gallbladder problems (e.g., jaundice, yellowing of skin or eyes)
  • Swelling in the intestines (intestinal angioedema)
  • Fluid in the lungs
  • Swollen lymph nodes in neck, armpit, or groin
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Strange dreams or sleep problems
  • Breast enlargement in men

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Linatil if you are allergic to enalapril maleate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • If you have had a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, making it hard to breathe or swallow.
  • If you are more than 3 months pregnant or planning to get pregnant (not recommended even in early pregnancy, ask your doctor).
  • If you are taking medicine containing aliskiren (e.g., for diabetes or kidney problems) or the combination sacubitril/valsartan (for heart failure).
  • When starting treatment, you may feel faint or dizzy due to low blood pressure. Lie down and contact your doctor if these symptoms bother you.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
