How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, the typical starting dose is 5-20 mg once daily. For heart failure, the typical starting dose is 2.5 mg once daily. Your doctor will adjust the dose as needed.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food, exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is usually 40 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness, weakness, or feeling unwell
  • Blurred vision
  • Cough
  • Dizziness due to low blood pressure, changes in heart rhythm, palpitations, or chest pain
  • Headache, depression, fainting, or changes in taste
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea, stomach pain
  • Fatigue
  • Skin rash, allergic reactions like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat causing difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • High potassium and creatinine levels in blood (found in blood tests)
RARE
  • Redness, sudden drop in blood pressure, fast or irregular heartbeat, heart attack, or stroke
  • Anemia, confusion, insomnia, drowsiness, nervousness, tingling or numbness in the skin, vertigo, or ringing in the ears
  • Runny nose, sore throat, hoarseness, or asthma-related chest tightness
  • Slow digestion, inflammation of the pancreas, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, constipation, loss of appetite, irritated stomach, dry mouth, or stomach ulcer
  • Muscle cramps, impaired kidney function, increased sweating, itching or hives, or hair loss
  • General malaise, fever, impotence, high protein in urine, low blood sugar or sodium, or high urea in blood (all seen in blood tests)
  • Raynaud's phenomenon (where hands and feet may become very cold and white due to low blood flow)
  • Changes in blood counts, such as low white or red blood cells, low hemoglobin, or low platelets, and bone marrow depression
  • Swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpit, or groin, and autoimmune diseases
  • Strange dreams, sleep problems, or fluid or substance buildup in the lungs (seen on X-ray)
  • Inflammation of the nose, lungs (pneumonia), cheeks, gums, tongue, lips, or throat
  • Reduced urine output, or severe skin rashes such as erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, exfoliative dermatitis, or pemphigus
  • Liver or gallbladder problems including impaired function, hepatitis, jaundice, or high liver enzymes/bilirubin (seen in blood tests), and male breast enlargement
  • Swelling in the intestine (intestinal angioedema)

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking Linatil and contact a doctor immediately if you experience swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, which may cause difficulty breathing and/or swallowing.
  • Do not use Linatil if you are more than 3 months pregnant or planning a pregnancy. Talk to your doctor.
  • Do not use Linatil if you are taking aliskiren or a combination medicine containing sacubitril and valsartan.
  • Linatil may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience these symptoms.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
