How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the exact dose, typically one tablet twice a day.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth with meals to help prevent stomach upset.

Important

Do not take more than 5 mg of linagliptin and 2000 mg of metformin hydrochloride per day.

  • Blurred vision

  • Pale skin

  • Confusion
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Stomach pain
  • Metallic taste in mouth
  • Low vitamin B12 levels, causing extreme tiredness, sore or red tongue, tingling or numbness, or pale/yellow skin
  • Increased levels of an enzyme in the blood (lipase)
RARE
  • Vomiting
  • Muscle cramps
  • General feeling of illness and severe tiredness
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Low body temperature
  • Slow heartbeat
  • Severe and ongoing stomach pain that may spread to your back (a sign of pancreatitis)
  • Wheezing or shortness of breath (allergic reaction)
  • Skin rash (allergic reaction)
  • Hives (itchy red bumps, allergic reaction)
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (making it hard to breathe or swallow, allergic reaction)
  • Cold-like symptoms (sore throat, runny nose)
  • Cough
  • Loss of appetite
  • Increased levels of an enzyme in the blood (amylase)
  • Itching
  • Skin blisters
  • Liver function problems
  • Constipation
  • Liver inflammation
  • Skin redness

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to linagliptin, metformin, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney or liver problems.
  • Do not use if your diabetes is uncontrolled, or if you have very high blood sugar, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rapid weight loss, lactic acidosis (too much acid in your blood), or ketoacidosis.
  • Do not use if you are severely dehydrated (lost a lot of body fluid) or have a severe infection.
  • Do not use if you have recently had a heart attack, severe blood circulation problems, or difficulty breathing.

  • Avoid drinking too much alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you experience symptoms of lactic acidosis, such as vomiting, stomach pain, muscle cramps, severe tiredness, difficulty breathing, decreased body temperature, or slow heart rate. This is a very serious side effect.
