How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 5 mg tablet once a day.

Method

You can take this medicine with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than one tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shaking, sweating, feeling anxious, blurry vision, tingling lips, pale skin, mood changes, or confusion (signs of low blood sugar, especially with certain other diabetes medicines).
  • Increased levels of an enzyme called lipase in your blood (often found in blood tests).
RARE
  • Wheezing, trouble breathing, rash, hives, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (signs of an allergic reaction).
  • Severe, ongoing stomach pain that may spread to your back, with nausea and vomiting (signs of pancreatitis, or inflammation of the pancreas).
  • Inflammation of the nose or throat.
  • Cough.
  • Constipation (when taken with insulin).
  • Increased levels of an enzyme called amylase in your blood (often found in blood tests).
  • Blisters on the skin.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to linagliptin or any other ingredient in it.
  • This medicine is not for Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious diabetes complication with very high blood sugar, fast weight loss, nausea, or vomiting).
  • If you are taking other diabetes medicines called sulfonylureas, your doctor might need to lower your dose to prevent low blood sugar.
  • Tell your doctor if you've had an allergic reaction to other medicines for blood sugar control.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had any disease of the pancreas.

  • Contact your doctor right away if you get severe, lasting stomach pain (this could be a sign of pancreatitis).
  • If you get skin blisters, tell your doctor. They might ask you to stop taking this medicine.
  • It's best to avoid using this medicine during pregnancy. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to be.
  • Talk to your doctor about whether to continue breastfeeding or stop taking this medicine.
