Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose. One maximum dose contains about 300 mg of sodium.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction, which may include swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, trouble breathing, or an itchy rash. Seek medical help right away.
  • Pain or numbness in your back or lower legs (after spinal anesthesia).
  • Trouble walking (after spinal anesthesia).
  • Trouble controlling your bladder or bowels (after spinal anesthesia).
  • Feeling weak or dizzy (after spinal anesthesia).
  • Slow heart rate or pulse (after spinal anesthesia).
COMMON
  • Feeling dizzy, strange or unreal, drowsy, shaky, or having a numb tongue. These might mean you received too much medicine.
  • Seizures.
  • Blurred vision or seeing double.
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) or sensitivity to normal sounds.
  • High or low blood pressure.
  • Slow heart rate, heart stopping, or changes in heart rhythm.
  • Trouble breathing or breathing stopping.
  • Feeling sick to your stomach (nausea) and throwing up (vomiting).
  • Rash, itchy face, and swelling.
  • Pain, redness, or numbness at the injection site after the numbing effect wears off.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to lidocaine hydrochloride or similar numbing medicines.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low blood volume or haven't had enough fluids (hypovolemia).
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, especially if they affect your heart rate, or a very slow heart rate.
  • Tell your doctor if you have epilepsy or get seizures.
  • If the medicine contains adrenaline, it should not be injected into veins or areas like fingers, toes, ears, nose, or the penis, as it can block blood flow too much.

  • Tell your doctor if you have low potassium in your blood, liver or kidney problems, a rare inherited disease called porphyria, a skin infection near the injection site, breathing problems, or muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis).
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine is not recommended for babies younger than 1 month old.
