How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually take 1-2 tablets, 2-4 times a day. Elderly or weak patients should start with 1-2 tablets once a day.

Method

Take the tablets about half an hour before meals with plenty of water or other liquid. You can also take them at bedtime or for pain.

Important

Do not take more than your doctor has prescribed, typically up to 8 tablets per day for adults, and up to 2 tablets per day for elderly or weak patients.

  • Vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Constipation
  • Skin reactions, like rash or itching
  • Difficulty urinating (urinary retention)
  • Changes in sexual desire (libido disorders)
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Menstrual problems, such as disorders or pain
  • Bone marrow problems (affecting blood cells)
  • Allergic reactions (hypersensitivity)
  • Memory loss
  • Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not there)
  • Dependence on the medicine
  • Depression, restlessness, agitation, irritability, or aggression
  • Delusions (false beliefs)
  • Nightmares
  • Psychotic disorders or abnormal behavior
  • Emotional disturbances
  • Paradoxical reactions (e.g., increased anxiety, sleep problems, or suicidal thoughts/attempts)
  • Slurred speech or problems walking
  • Tremors or movement disorders
  • Fast heartbeat or palpitations (feeling your heart pound)
  • Breathing problems (respiratory depression, increased phlegm in airways)
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), or abnormal liver tests
  • Muscle weakness or general weakness

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to clidinium bromide, chlordiazepoxide, or any other ingredients in Librax.
  • Do not give to children under 6 years old. It is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years old.
  • Do not use if you have narrow-angle glaucoma, severe difficulty urinating (e.g., due to prostate problems), severe breathing issues, sleep apnea, severe liver problems, myasthenia gravis, or if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you are over 65 years old and have many diseases, or over 75 years old.
  • Talk to your doctor before using Librax if you have prostate enlargement, kidney problems, mild or moderate liver problems, heart disease, overactive thyroid, chronic bronchitis, slow bowel movement, depression, personality disorder, are pregnant, or have a history of alcohol or drug dependence.

  • Treatment should be as short as possible, usually 8-12 weeks at most, to avoid dependence. Stopping suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Librax, as it can make you very sleepy and confused.
  • This medicine can affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.
  • Women and men of childbearing age must use effective contraception during and for some time after treatment.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Significant adverse effects include impaired cognition and orthostatic hypotension. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 20.5.2024)
