How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your exact dose based on blood tests. Treatment usually starts with a low dose, which is slowly increased every 2-4 weeks until the right dose is found for you.

Method

Take your daily dose once a day in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before breakfast, with a small amount of liquid (e.g., half a glass of water). For infants, crush the tablet and mix with a small amount of water just before giving it.

Important

Never take more than your doctor has prescribed. Taking too much can cause serious side effects.

  • Allergic reactions like rash, hives, or swelling of the face or throat (angioedema)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to levothyroxine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have untreated problems with your adrenal or pituitary gland, or if you have an untreated overactive thyroid.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have an acute heart problem, such as a heart attack or inflammation of the heart.
  • Do not use this medicine with anti-thyroid drugs if you are pregnant.
  • Thyroid hormones should not be used for weight loss. Taking more than prescribed can be dangerous.

  • Tell your doctor if you switch to a different brand of levothyroxine, as your dose might need to change.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have heart problems like chest pain, heart failure, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, or hardened arteries. These conditions must be controlled before starting treatment.
