How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your specific dose; treatment usually starts low and is increased over 2-4 weeks. For infants with congenital hypothyroidism, the recommended starting dose is 10-15 micrograms per kg body weight for the first 3 months.

Method

Take one dose orally in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before breakfast, preferably with a small amount of water (e.g., half a glass). For infants, crush the tablet, mix with a little water, and give it at least 30 minutes before their first meal.

Important

The maximum daily dose for thyroid cancer treatment is 300 micrograms.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to levothyroxine sodium or any other ingredient in the tablets.
  • Do not take if you have untreated adrenal gland problems.
  • Do not take if you have untreated pituitary gland problems or too much thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism).
  • Do not take if you have recently had a heart attack.
  • Do not take if you have acute inflammation of the heart muscle or all layers of the heart.
