How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will give you a fast drip (infusion) for about 10 minutes, followed by a slower drip that can last up to 24 hours. Your doctor will decide your exact dose.

Method

This medicine is given as a drip (infusion) directly into a vein.

Important

The drip usually lasts for a maximum of 24 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abnormally fast heart rate
  • Headache
  • Low blood pressure
  • Low potassium levels in the blood
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Dizziness
  • Atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat where the upper chambers of the heart quiver instead of beating normally)
  • Extra heartbeats
  • Worsening heart failure
  • Lack of oxygen to the heart
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Low hemoglobin levels
RARE
  • Ventricular fibrillation (a serious irregular heartbeat where the lower chambers of the heart quiver instead of beating normally)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to levosimendan or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if your blood pressure is very low or your heart rate is too fast.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney or liver disease.
  • Do not use if you have a heart condition that prevents your heart from filling or emptying correctly.
  • Do not use if you have ever had a heart rhythm problem called Torsades de Pointes.

  • Tell your doctor if you have low blood counts and chest pain.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an abnormally fast or irregular heartbeat (like atrial fibrillation) or low potassium in your blood.
