How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose and may adjust it as needed.

Method

This medicine is given as a drip directly into a vein, usually starting with a short fast infusion followed by a slower infusion that can last up to 24 hours.

Important

The infusion is usually given for up to 24 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Abnormally fast heart rate
  • Low blood pressure
RARE
  • Low potassium in the blood
  • Insomnia
  • Dizziness
  • Atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat where the upper chambers of the heart quiver instead of contracting normally)
  • Increased heart rate
  • Extra heartbeats
  • Heart failure
  • Lack of oxygen to the heart
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Low blood count

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to levosimendan or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have very low blood pressure or a very fast heart rate.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney or liver disease.
  • Do not use if you have a heart condition that makes it hard for your heart to fill or empty.
  • Do not use if you have a specific type of irregular heartbeat called Torsades de Pointes.

  • Tell your doctor if you have low blood count (anemia) and chest pain.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an abnormally fast heart rate, irregular heartbeats, atrial fibrillation, or low potassium levels.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low blood volume (hypovolemia).
  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 18 years.
  • If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, discuss with your doctor. You should not breastfeed during treatment with this medicine.
