How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the right dose for you; it usually starts with a quick 10-minute infusion, followed by a slower one for up to 24 hours.

Method

It is given as a drip into your vein in a hospital, so doctors can monitor you closely.

Important

The infusion usually lasts 24 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abnormally fast heart rate
  • Headache
  • Drop in blood pressure
  • Low potassium levels in the blood
  • Sleep problems
  • Dizziness
  • Atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat)
  • Extra heartbeats
  • Heart failure
  • Lack of oxygen to the heart
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Low blood count (low hemoglobin)
RARE
  • Ventricular fibrillation (a very serious irregular heartbeat)
  • Hypersensitivity (symptoms may include rash and itching)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to levosimendan or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have very low blood pressure or a very fast heartbeat.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney or liver disease.
  • Do not use if you have a heart condition that affects your heart's ability to fill or pump blood.
  • Do not use if you have a history of a heart rhythm problem called Torsades de Pointes.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. You should not breastfeed while using this medicine.
