How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose. The treatment usually starts with a short, fast infusion, followed by a slower infusion.

Method

This medicine is given as a drip into a vein in a hospital, after it has been diluted.

Important

The infusion usually lasts up to 24 hours.

  • Fast heartbeat
  • Headache

RARE
  • Low potassium in blood
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Dizziness
  • Irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation, where the upper chambers of the heart quiver)
  • Extra heartbeats
  • Heart failure
  • Lack of oxygen to the heart
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Low red blood cell count
  • Very fast and irregular heartbeat from the lower chambers of the heart (ventricular fibrillation)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to levosimendan or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have very low blood pressure, a very fast heartbeat, severe kidney or liver disease, a heart condition that prevents proper filling or emptying of the heart, or a specific type of abnormal heart rhythm called Torsades de Pointes.
  • Discuss with your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, low blood counts, chest pain, a fast or irregular heartbeat, or low potassium levels in your blood.
  • This medicine is not for children or adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • Using this medicine with other IV heart medicines or isosorbide mononitrate can cause your blood pressure to drop.

  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor. Do not breastfeed during treatment as it may harm the baby's heart or circulation.
  • This medicine may affect your ability to drive or use machines. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel unsafe.
  • This medicine contains alcohol, which can affect driving, using machines, and how other medicines work. Talk to your doctor if you have epilepsy, liver problems, or alcohol dependence.
