How to Use

Dosage

For constipation: Adults and youth: 15-45 ml daily (starting dose), then 15-30 ml daily (maintenance dose). Children (7-14 years): 15 ml daily (starting dose), then 10-15 ml daily (maintenance dose). Children (1-6 years): 5-10 ml daily (starting and maintenance dose). Infants (under 1 year): 2.5-5 ml daily (starting and maintenance dose). For hepatic encephalopathy (adults): Start with 30-50 ml three times a day. Adjust dose to have 2-3 soft stools daily.

Method

Take doses at the same time each day, either as a single dose or split into up to three doses. You can take it with or without food, diluted in liquid, or undiluted. Use the measuring cup. Swallow quickly; do not hold in your mouth.

Important

Do not take more than the recommended dose, as too much can cause diarrhea, stomach pain, and upset your body's salt balance.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Levolac if you are allergic to lactulose.
  • Do not use Levolac if you have galactosemia, severe inflammatory bowel disease (like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis), a bowel blockage (unless it's normal constipation), a hole in your digestive tract, a risk of a hole in your digestive tract, or stomach pain from an unknown cause.
  • Using Levolac for a long time or taking too much can cause diarrhea and upset your body's salt balance. If your condition doesn't improve after a few days or gets worse, talk to your doctor.
  • Only give this medicine to children if a doctor tells you to and under their supervision.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking Levolac if you have heart problems linked to digestive issues (Roemheld's syndrome). If you feel bloated or have a lot of gas after taking it, stop using it and talk to your doctor.
