How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose and provide instructions on how to take it, based on your condition and other treatments.

Method

This medicine is always given directly into a vein, either as an injection or as a drip.

The maximum daily dose depends on your specific treatment and is always determined by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Reduced number of blood cells (this can be life-threatening).
  • Swelling and redness in the digestive tract and mouth (can be painful and life-threatening).
  • Redness and swelling of the palms of your hands or soles of your feet, which may cause skin to peel (hand-foot syndrome).
  • Nausea, vomiting.
  • Severe diarrhea and possibly dehydration, which may require hospitalisation and can be fatal.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction with symptoms like itchy rash (hives), swelling of hands, feet, face, lips, mouth, or throat (which can make it hard to swallow or breathe), and feeling dizzy. This is very serious and needs immediate medical help.
  • Fever.
  • Sleep problems (insomnia), agitation, and depression (after high doses).
  • Digestive problems (after high doses).
  • Increased frequency of seizures in patients with epilepsy.
  • Higher than normal blood ammonia levels.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to levofolinic acid or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have pernicious anemia or any other anemia caused by vitamin B12 deficiency.
  • Do not use with 5-fluorouracil if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not use with 5-fluorouracil if you have severe diarrhea.
  • This medicine must not be given into the spinal fluid (intrathecally), as this can cause very serious side effects, including death.

  • If you have epilepsy and are taking certain medicines for it, your risk of seizures may increase. Your doctor may adjust your medicine dose.
  • If you experience loose stools twice a day or have mouth sores (mild to moderate), contact your doctor immediately.
