How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose for adults and adolescents over 12 years weighing more than 50 kg is usually 1,000–3,000 mg per day, with your doctor starting you on a lower dose.

Method

Swallow the tablets with liquid, such as a glass of water, twice daily, in the morning and evening, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is generally 3,000 mg.

RARE
  • Decrease in blood platelets or white blood cells
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Suicide attempts or thoughts
  • Mental problems, abnormal behavior, hallucinations, anger, confusion, panic attacks, mood swings, agitation
  • Memory loss, impaired memory, coordination problems, tingling sensation, attention disorder
  • Double vision, blurred vision
  • Abnormal liver function test results
  • Hair loss, eczema, itching
  • Muscle weakness, muscle pain
  • Injury
  • Infection
  • Decrease in all types of blood cells
  • Severe allergic reactions (like swelling of the face, tongue, throat, severe rash, or flu-like symptoms)
  • Low sodium levels in blood
  • Personality disorders, abnormal thinking, confusion (delirium)
  • Encephalopathy (a brain disease that can cause confusion, drowsiness, memory loss, and abnormal behavior)
  • Uncontrolled muscle spasms (in head, body, and limbs), involuntary movements
  • Changes in heart rhythm
  • Pancreatitis
  • Liver failure, hepatitis
  • Sudden kidney failure
  • Severe skin rashes, including blisters and peeling skin
  • Rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown)
  • Limping or difficulty walking
  • Fever, muscle stiffness, unstable blood pressure and heart rate, confusion, low consciousness
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (compulsive thoughts or repetitive actions)

Important Warnings

  • If you have kidney problems, your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • If your child's growth slows down or puberty develops unexpectedly, contact your doctor.
  • If you have suicidal thoughts, depression, or notice changes in your mood or behavior, tell your doctor immediately.
  • If you have or have a family history of heart rhythm problems or other heart conditions, tell your doctor.
  • Seizures may rarely get worse or more frequent at the start of treatment; contact your doctor if this happens.

  • Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is generally not recommended.
  • This medicine can make you drowsy, so do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
  • Do not take macrogol (a laxative) one hour before or after taking this medicine, as it may reduce its effectiveness.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Consider possibility of mental disorders. (updated 6.10.2025)
