How to Use

Dosage

Usually one 10 mg tablet once daily. Your doctor may increase it to one 20 mg tablet daily if needed.

Method

Take the tablet whole with half a glass of water, preferably in the morning at least 15 minutes before breakfast, at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is one 20 mg tablet.

  • Increased urination
  • Weakness and tiredness
  • Angina pectoris (chest pain from heart not getting enough blood)
  • Allergic reactions (like itching, hives)
  • Drowsiness
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Chest pain (general)
  • Swelling of the gums
  • Increased liver enzyme levels in blood tests
  • Cloudy fluid during peritoneal dialysis
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (which can cause breathing or swallowing problems)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to lercanidipine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have certain heart conditions, such as uncontrolled heart failure, a blockage in blood flow from the heart, unstable chest pain (angina pectoris), or if you had a heart attack less than a month ago.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver or kidney problems, or if you are on dialysis.
  • Do not take if you are using medicines for fungal infections (e.g., ketoconazole), macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin), or antiviral medicines (e.g., ritonavir).
  • Do not take if you are using cyclosporine.

  • Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice as it can increase the medicine's effect.
  • Avoid alcohol during treatment as it can increase dizziness, weakness, or tiredness.
  • This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy and should not be used while breastfeeding. Consult your doctor if pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy.
  • If you feel dizzy, weak, or sleepy, do not drive or operate machinery.
  • Tell your doctor if you have 'sick sinus syndrome' without a pacemaker, other heart problems, or chest pain (angina pectoris).
  • Always tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter ones.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include ankle oedema and orthostatic hypotension. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 17.2.2025)
