How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 10 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, preferably in the morning at least 15 minutes before breakfast. You can break the tablet to make it easier to swallow, but not to divide it into two equal doses.

Important

Your doctor may increase the dose to a maximum of 20 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

  • Sudden flushing of face, neck, or chest
  • Ankle swelling
RARE
  • Dizziness
  • Drop in blood pressure
  • Heartburn
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain

  • Muscle pain
  • Increased urination
  • Weakness and tiredness
  • Drowsiness
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Hives
  • General chest pain
  • Angina pectoris (chest pain from reduced blood flow to the heart, which can feel like a squeezing in the chest)
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat that can cause breathing or swallowing difficulties)
  • Fainting
  • Gum swelling
  • Changes in liver function (seen in blood tests)
  • Cloudy fluid during abdominal dialysis

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to lercanidipine hydrochloride or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have certain serious heart conditions, such as narrowing of heart valves, untreated heart failure, unstable chest pain, or if you've had a heart attack in the past month.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver or kidney problems, or if you are on dialysis.
  • Do not take with certain medicines that affect how your liver processes drugs, such as some antifungal drugs, macrolide antibiotics, or antiviral drugs.
  • Do not take if you are taking cyclosporine.

  • Do not take with grapefruit or grapefruit juice.
  • This medicine is not for children under 18 years old.
  • Avoid alcohol, as it can make the medicine's effects stronger.
  • If you feel dizzy, weak, or sleepy, do not drive or use machines.
  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
