Lenvatinib ratiopharm

Lenvatinib ratiopharm is a medicine used to treat advanced thyroid cancer, liver cancer, and in combination with another medicine, advanced endometrial cancer, by blocking proteins that help cancer cells grow and form new blood vessels.

How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take. For thyroid cancer, it's usually 24 mg once a day. For liver cancer, it's 8 mg or 12 mg once a day, based on your weight. For endometrial cancer, it's 20 mg once a day with another medicine.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water, with or without food, at about the same time each day. Do not open the capsules. If you have trouble swallowing, your doctor might give you a different lenvatinib medicine.

The maximum daily dose is usually 24 mg, but your doctor may adjust it based on your condition and any side effects.

Possible Side Effects

  • High or low blood pressure
  • Loss of appetite or weight loss
  • Nausea and vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain
  • Feeling very tired or weak
  • Hoarseness
  • Swelling in the legs
  • Rash
  • Dry, sore, or inflamed mouth, strange taste
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Dizziness
  • Hair loss
  • Bleeding (e.g., nosebleeds, blood in urine, bruises, gum bleeding, bowel bleeding)
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Protein in urine (high) and urinary tract infections (more frequent/painful urination)
  • Headache
  • Back pain
  • Redness, soreness, and swelling of skin on hands and feet (hand-foot syndrome)
  • Underactive thyroid (tiredness, weight gain, constipation, cold sensitivity, dry skin) and high TSH
  • Overactive thyroid (fast heart rate, sweating, weight loss)
  • Low potassium and calcium in blood tests
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Low red blood cell count
  • Changes in liver function blood tests
  • Low platelet count (bruising, poor wound healing)
  • Low magnesium, high cholesterol in blood tests
  • Changes in kidney function blood tests or kidney failure
  • High lipase and amylase (digestive enzymes)
  • Dehydration
  • Heart palpitations
  • Dry, thick, and itchy skin
  • Stomach swelling or gas
  • Heart problems, blood clots in lungs (shortness of breath, chest pain) or other organs

  • Gallbladder inflammation
  • Stroke
  • Anal fistula (small channel between rectum and skin)
  • Hole (perforation) in stomach or intestine
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Colon inflammation (colitis)
  • Decreased hormone production by adrenal glands
RARE
  • Painful infection or irritation near anus
  • Mini-stroke
  • Liver damage
  • Severe pain in upper left abdomen with fever, chills, nausea, and vomiting (spleen infarct)
  • Problems with wound healing
  • Jaw bone damage (osteonecrosis)
  • Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to lenvatinib or any other ingredient.
  • Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine, as it can harm your baby.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart problems, stroke, or liver/kidney issues.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or can become pregnant, and use effective birth control during and for one month after treatment.
  • Be careful with driving or operating machines if you feel dizzy or tired.

  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience numbness or weakness on one side of your body, severe headache, confusion, speech difficulties, vision changes, or dizziness, as these could be signs of a stroke or brain bleed.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have chest pain, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, coughing, blue lips or fingers, or extreme tiredness, as these could be signs of heart problems or a blood clot in the lungs.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have severe stomach pain, black or bloody stools, or cough up blood, as these could be signs of a serious stomach or bowel issue or internal bleeding.
  • Inform your doctor immediately if your skin or eyes turn yellow, or if you feel tired, confused, or have poor concentration, as these might be signs of liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have severe diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting, as these can lead to dehydration and kidney problems.
  • Report any mouth pain, swelling, sores, numbness in the jaw, heavy feeling in the jaw, or loose teeth to your doctor right away, as these could be signs of jaw bone damage.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have nausea, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, muscle cramps, seizures, cloudy urine, or tiredness, as these could be signs of tumor lysis syndrome (TLS).
