How to Use

Dosage

The doctor will decide your dose (2-20 mg) based on the size of your joint; large joints usually get 10-20 mg (0.5-1 ml) and medium joints 5-10 mg (0.25-0.5 ml).

Method

A doctor will give you the injection into a joint or near a joint. The vial must be shaken well before use and it should not be given into a vein.

Important

You can receive injections in up to two joints per treatment, but not more often than every 3-4 weeks in the same joint.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Allergic reactions (like a severe whole-body reaction)
  • Hidden infections becoming active, or increased risk of new infections
  • Weakened adrenal gland function, Cushing's syndrome (excess hormone), high blood sugar
  • Low potassium, too much sodium or fluid buildup in the body
  • Sleep problems, worsening of existing mental health issues, depression, mood swings
  • Dizziness, headache, increased pressure in the head
  • Glaucoma (high eye pressure), cataracts, blurred vision, diseases of the blood vessels or retina in the eye
  • Blood clots, high blood pressure
  • Stomach ulcers (with risk of bleeding or rupture)
  • Skin darkening or lightening, thinning of skin in certain areas, increased hair growth, acne-like rash, small bruises, skin spots, or streaks
  • Slowed growth (in children), osteoporosis (weak bones), muscle wasting, bone death, tendon rupture
  • Irregular or absent periods, vaginal bleeding in postmenopausal women
  • Calcification (calcium imbalance), slow wound healing, local reactions at the injection site

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to triamcinolone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have tuberculosis, herpes infection in the eye, severe mental illness, or a widespread fungal infection.
  • Tell your doctor if you have Cushing's syndrome, an infection that cannot be treated with antibiotics, stomach ulcer, severe kidney inflammation, mental illness, muscle weakness, bowel inflammation, blood clots, high blood pressure, eye herpes, diabetes, acute heart disease, kidney or heart failure, skin disease (like eczema), ulcerative colitis, or osteoporosis.
  • Do not use Lederspan if you have recently been vaccinated.
  • Athletes should know that this medicine can cause a positive doping test result.

  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other vision problems.
  • Lederspan should not be given to premature babies or newborns because it contains benzyl alcohol, which can cause harm or allergic reactions in children under 3 years old.
  • This medicine can affect fertility, causing menstrual problems in women and reduced sperm production in men. Discuss with your doctor if you are planning a family.
