How to Use

Dosage

Usually, one 15 mg or 30 mg capsule once a day, for about 2 to 4 weeks, as prescribed by your doctor.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew it. Take it at least 30 minutes before food, ideally in the morning. If taking twice a day, take one dose in the morning and one in the evening.

Important

The maximum daily dose can be up to 60 mg, usually for specific conditions like H. pylori infection or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, as directed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, dizziness
  • Feeling tired
  • Diarrhea, constipation, stomach ache, feeling sick or throwing up, gas, dry or sore mouth or throat
  • Rash, itching
  • Changes in liver blood test results
  • Small growths (polyps) in the stomach that are not harmful
RARE
  • Depression
  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Bone fractures (hip, wrist, or spine)
  • Swelling or fluid build-up
  • Changes in blood cell counts (seen in blood tests)
  • Fever
  • Restlessness, sleepiness, confusion, seeing or hearing things that are not there, trouble sleeping, vision problems, feeling dizzy (spinning sensation)
  • Changes in taste, loss of appetite, sore tongue
  • Skin reactions like burning or tingling, bruising, redness, or a lot of sweating
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Hair loss
  • Numbness, tingling, or crawling sensations on the skin, trembling
  • Anemia (pale skin)
  • Kidney problems
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
  • Liver inflammation, which can make your skin or eyes yellow
  • Enlarged breasts in men, erectile dysfunction
  • Yeast infection (fungal infection on skin or mucous membranes)
  • Swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives, or trouble breathing (angioedema)
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., fever, rash, swelling, sometimes low blood pressure)
  • Mouth inflammation
  • Intestine inflammation (colitis)
  • Low white blood cell count, which can make you more prone to infections
  • Low magnesium in the blood, causing tiredness, muscle twitching, confusion, seizures, dizziness, or a fast heartbeat
  • Low sodium in the blood, causing nausea, vomiting, headache, drowsiness, tiredness, confusion, muscle weakness or spasms, irritability, seizures, or coma
  • Skin rash as part of lupus, possibly with joint pain
  • Seeing things that are not real (visual hallucinations)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to lansoprazole or any other ingredient in the medicine.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a severe liver disease, as your dose might need to be adjusted.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you develop diarrhea while taking this medicine, as it can slightly increase the risk of infectious diarrhea.
  • Talk to your doctor if your vitamin B12 levels are low or if you are at risk for low B12 and are taking this medicine for a long time, as it may reduce B12 absorption.
  • Long-term use (over a year) may slightly increase the risk of bone fractures. Tell your doctor if you have osteoporosis or use corticosteroids, as these can increase your fracture risk.

  • If you develop a rash, especially in areas exposed to sunlight, tell your doctor as soon as possible, as treatment with this medicine may need to be stopped.
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek medical help immediately if you get severe skin reactions like red, target-like spots with blisters, skin peeling, or mouth/throat/eye sores.
  • Kidney inflammation can occur. Symptoms may include less urine, blood in urine, fever, rash, or stiff joints. Report these to your doctor.
