How to Use

Dosage

Typically, you take one 15 mg or 30 mg capsule once a day, but your doctor will tell you the exact dose.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water, at least 30 minutes before food. Do not crush or chew it. If you take it once a day, take it in the morning. If you take it twice a day, take one in the morning and one in the evening.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 30 mg or 60 mg, depending on your condition. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

  • Inflammation of the tongue
  • Fungal infections (like thrush)
  • Inflammation of the pancreas
  • Changes in taste
  • Liver inflammation (may cause yellowing of skin or eyes)
  • Skin reactions like burning, stinging, bruising, redness, hair loss, or sensitivity to sun
  • Kidney problems
  • Enlarged breasts in men
  • Fever
  • Increased sweating
  • Serious swelling of face, tongue, or throat (angioedema), get medical help right away
  • Loss of appetite
  • Impotence
  • A severe drop in white blood cells, making infections more likely
  • Inflammation of the colon (large intestine)
  • Inflammation of the mouth
  • Very severe skin reactions (redness, blisters, peeling skin, severe inflammation), stop medicine and get medical help right away
  • Severe allergic reactions, including shock (fever, rash, swelling, sometimes drop in blood pressure)
  • Changes in certain blood test results (e.g., sodium, cholesterol, triglycerides)
  • Low magnesium levels in blood (tiredness, muscle twitches, confusion, seizures, dizziness, fast heartbeat), tell your doctor immediately
  • Low sodium levels in blood (nausea, vomiting, headache, drowsiness, tiredness, confusion, muscle weakness or cramps, irritability, seizures, coma)
  • Skin rash, possibly with joint pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to lansoprazole or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver disease, as your dose might need to be changed.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you get diarrhea while taking this medicine, as it can be a sign of infection.
  • Long-term use (over a year) may slightly increase the risk of bone fractures. Tell your doctor if you have osteoporosis or are at risk for it.
  • This medicine can cause kidney problems. Tell your doctor if you notice less urine, blood in your urine, fever, rash, or joint pain.

  • Long-term use can lower vitamin B12 levels. Talk to your doctor if you are concerned about this.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had a skin rash, especially on sun-exposed areas, or if you have had a severe skin reaction with other similar medicines. Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get a severe skin rash (red spots, blisters, peeling skin, mouth sores).
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, vertigo, tiredness, or vision problems. If you experience these, be careful when driving or using machines.
  • If you don't feel better or feel worse after 14 days, contact your doctor.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For short-term use only. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with clopidogrel and (es)citalopram. Avoid long-term use. Long-term use carries an increased risk of adverse effects. Risk of hypomagnesemia in prolonged use. (updated 10.11.2025)
