How to Use

Dosage

Typically, one injection every 28 days. Your doctor will decide the correct dose (60 mg, 90 mg, or 120 mg).

Method

The injection is given deep under the skin. It can be administered by a healthcare professional, a trained caregiver, or yourself if you have received proper training.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum single dose, which is usually 120 mg, given every 28, 42, or 56 days.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea, loose stools, stomach pain.
  • Gallstones or other gallbladder problems (e.g., severe stomach pain, fever, yellow skin/eyes, loss of appetite, chills, itching).
RARE
  • Weight loss.
  • Lack of energy.
  • Slow heartbeat.
  • Feeling very tired.
  • Reduced appetite.
  • General weakness.
  • Fatty stools.
  • Dizziness, headache.
  • Hair loss or less body hair.
  • Pain in muscles, ligaments, tendons, and bones.
  • Reactions at the injection site, such as pain, hard skin, or itching.
  • Abnormal liver or pancreas test results, or changes in blood sugar levels.
  • Nausea, vomiting, constipation, gas, bloating, or indigestion.
  • Enlarged bile ducts (can cause stomach pain, nausea, yellow skin/eyes, and fever).
  • Hot flashes.
  • Sleep problems.
  • Changes in stool color.
  • Changes in blood test levels for sodium and alkaline phosphatase.
  • Sudden, severe lower stomach pain (may be a sign of pancreas inflammation).
  • Redness, pain, warmth, swelling, fluid, or fever at the injection site (may be a sign of an abscess).
  • Sudden, severe pain in the upper right or middle stomach, possibly spreading to shoulder or back, tenderness, nausea, vomiting, high fever (may be a sign of gallbladder inflammation).
  • Upper right stomach pain, fever, chills, yellow skin/eyes, nausea, vomiting, clay-colored stools, dark urine, fatigue (may be a sign of bile duct inflammation).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to lanreotide or similar medicines.
  • If you have diabetes, this medicine may affect your blood sugar levels. Your doctor might need to adjust your diabetes medication.
  • If you have gallstones, this medicine can cause new ones or make existing ones worse. Your doctor may monitor you.
  • This medicine can slightly reduce your thyroid function.
  • If you have heart problems, especially a slow heartbeat, this medicine might make it worse. Your doctor will be careful when starting treatment.

  • Lanreotide Viatris is not recommended for children or adolescents.

  • This medicine may cause dizziness. If you feel dizzy, do not drive or use machines.
