How to Use

Dosage

Usually, one injection every 28 days. Your doctor will decide your exact dose, which can be 60mg, 90mg, or 120mg. In some cases, a 120mg injection might be given every 42 or 56 days if your condition is well-controlled.

Method

This medicine is given as a deep injection under the skin. It can be administered by a healthcare professional, a trained family member or friend, or by yourself after proper training. The injection site is usually the upper outer part of the buttock or the upper outer thigh. If self-injecting, use the upper outer thigh.

Important

The maximum single dose is 120 mg per injection. Never take more than your doctor prescribes or more often than instructed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea, soft stools, abdominal pain
  • Gallstones and other gallbladder issues (symptoms may include sudden severe stomach pain, fever, yellow skin/eyes, loss of appetite, chills, itching)
  • Weight loss

  • Dizziness, headache
  • Hair loss or reduced hair growth
  • Pain in muscles, ligaments, tendons, and bones

  • Abnormal liver and pancreas test results, changes in blood sugar levels
  • Nausea, vomiting, constipation, bloating, stomach discomfort, digestive problems
  • Enlargement of bile ducts between the liver, gallbladder, and small intestine (symptoms may include abdominal pain, nausea, yellow skin/eyes, fever)
RARE
  • Hot flashes
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Change in stool color
  • Changes in sodium and alkaline phosphatase levels in blood tests

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to lanreotide, similar medicines, or any other ingredients listed in the leaflet.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, as this medicine can affect your blood sugar levels. Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication.
  • Tell your doctor if you have gallstones, as this medicine can cause new gallstones or make existing ones worse. You may need regular check-ups.
  • Tell your doctor if you have thyroid problems, as this medicine can mildly affect how your thyroid gland works.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, as this medicine can slow your heart rate.
