How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children 13 years and older, the usual dose is between 100 mg and 400 mg daily. For children aged 2-12 years, the dose depends on weight, typically 1-15 mg per kg daily, with a maximum of 200 mg daily. This medicine is not recommended for children under 2 years old.

Method

Take your Lamotrigin Orion dose once or twice a day, as prescribed by your doctor. You can take it with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a small amount of water, chew it, or dissolve it in water. Always take the full dose prescribed by your doctor; never take only part of a tablet.

Important

Never take more Lamotrigin Orion than your doctor has prescribed. The maximum daily dose for adults and children 13 years and older is 400 mg. For children aged 2-12 years, the maximum daily dose is 200 mg.

Possible Side Effects

  • Headache
  • Rash
  • Feeling angry or easily annoyed
  • Feeling tired or sleepy

  • Shaking or tremors
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Feeling anxious or restless
  • Diarrhea
  • Dry mouth
  • Feeling sick (nausea) or throwing up (vomiting)
  • Back pain, joint pain, or other body pain
RARE
  • Clumsiness or trouble moving smoothly
  • Seeing double or blurry
  • Losing more hair than usual
  • Swelling around the brain and spine (meningitis), causing symptoms like fever, sickness, headache, stiff neck, and sensitivity to light
  • Eyes moving quickly and uncontrollably
  • Itchy, watery eyes
  • High fever
  • Swelling of the face or swollen glands (like in the neck or armpits)
  • Liver problems (shown in blood tests)
  • Serious bleeding or bruising problems
  • A severe reaction of your body's defense system (HLH)
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., low red or white blood cells)
  • Seeing or hearing things that aren't real (hallucinations)
  • Feeling confused
  • Feeling unsteady when you move
  • Uncontrolled body movements or twitches
  • More frequent or worse seizures (if you have epilepsy)
  • Parkinson's disease symptoms getting worse
  • Lupus-like reactions (pain in joints or back, sometimes with fever)
  • Weak or brittle bones (shown in tests)
  • Kidney inflammation
  • Bad dreams
  • Weaker immune system (more infections)
  • Red lumps or spots on the skin (pseudolymphoma)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Lamotrigin Orion if you are allergic to lamotrigine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Be aware of serious skin reactions like a rash that might lead to severe problems such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, or DRESS syndrome. Get medical help right away if you get a widespread rash, blisters, peeling skin, fever, swollen glands, or other serious symptoms.
  • A rare but very serious immune system reaction called HLH (Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis) has been reported. Get medical help right away if you get fever, rash, or nervous system symptoms like shaking, confusion, or brain issues.
  • Some people taking this medicine have had thoughts of harming themselves or suicide. Contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital right away if you have such thoughts.
  • If you take Lamotrigin Orion for epilepsy and your seizures become more frequent or severe, contact your doctor right away.

  • Lamotrigin Orion should not be given to people under 18 years old for bipolar disorder, as it may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, including herbal remedies and over-the-counter medicines.
  • Hormonal contraceptives (like birth control pills) can affect how Lamotrigin Orion works. Discuss suitable contraception with your doctor.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Do not stop treatment without talking to your doctor.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and double vision. Do not drive or operate machines unless you are sure it does not cause these symptoms for you.
  • This medicine contains aspartame, which is a source of phenylalanine. It may be harmful if you have phenylketonuria (PKU).
