Lamictal is a medication used to treat epilepsy and bipolar disorder.
Your doctor will start you on a low dose and gradually increase it. For adults and children over 13, the dose is usually between 100 mg and 400 mg daily. For children aged 2-12, the dose depends on weight, typically 1-15 mg per kg, up to a maximum of 200 mg daily. Lamictal is generally not recommended for children under 2 years old.
Take Lamictal once or twice a day as instructed by your doctor, with or without food. You can swallow the tablets whole with water, chew them, or dissolve them in water.
Never take more Lamictal than your doctor has prescribed, with a maximum of 400 mg daily for adults and 200 mg daily for children aged 2-12.
Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Numerous potential adverse effects.. Consider common and sometimes serious adverse skin reactions. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. (updated 6.10.2025)
