How to Use

Dosage

Doses are individual. Adults typically start with 30 ml (for 3-4 days) and then a maintenance dose of 15 ml (range 10-30 ml). Children 6-14 years typically start with 15 ml and then a maintenance dose of 7.5 ml (range 5-10 ml). Infants and toddlers typically start with 2.5-10 ml and then a maintenance dose of 5 ml.

Method

Take the dose preferably as a single dose in the morning on an empty stomach. You can mix it with 1-2 dl of water, coffee, tea, juice, or milk. The effect usually starts in about 2 hours but can also take a few days.

Important

If you experience diarrhea, reduce the dose or stop using the medicine. Persistent diarrhea can cause potassium deficiency. Normally used doses do not affect blood sugar levels in diabetics.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to lactulose or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have a hereditary galactose metabolism disorder (galactosemia).
  • Do not use if you have a confirmed bowel obstruction.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have severe lactose intolerance, as Laktufarm may cause stomach symptoms.
  • This medicine contains small amounts of galactose, lactose, and fructose. If you have a sugar intolerance, talk to your doctor.

  • Fructose can harm your teeth.
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
  • If you have taken too much medicine, always contact a doctor or Poison Information Centre.
  • If you have been using the medicine for a long time, its use should be stopped gradually.
