How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 50 mg (5 ml) twice a day. Your doctor will slowly increase your dose over several weeks.

Method

Take this syrup twice a day, about 12 hours apart, with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 600 mg (60 ml) per day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or nausea
  • Double vision
  • Quick muscle twitches
  • Problems with coordination or walking
  • Balance problems, shaking, tingling, muscle cramps, falling, bruising
  • Memory problems, difficulty thinking or finding words, confusion
  • Fast, uncontrolled eye movements, blurred vision
  • Spinning sensation, feeling drunk
  • Vomiting, dry mouth, constipation, indigestion, gas, diarrhea
  • Reduced sensation, difficulty speaking, attention problems
  • Ringing or buzzing in the ears
  • Irritability, trouble sleeping, depression
  • Sleepiness, tiredness, weakness
  • Itching, skin rash
RARE
  • Slow heart rate, palpitations, irregular pulse, or other heart rhythm changes
  • Feeling overly happy, seeing or hearing things that are not real
  • Allergic reaction, hives
  • Abnormal liver test results, liver damage
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide
  • Anger or agitation
  • Unusual thoughts or feeling detached from reality
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, throat, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
  • Fainting
  • Involuntary movements
  • Abnormally fast heart rate (ventricular tachycardia)
  • Sore throat, high fever, and more infections than usual (low white blood cells)
  • Severe skin reaction with fever, flu-like symptoms, facial rash, widespread rash, swollen glands (elevated liver enzymes, increased white blood cells)
  • Widespread rash with blisters and skin peeling (Stevens-Johnson syndrome) or a more severe form where over 30% of skin peels (toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Seizures (convulsions)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to lacosamide or any other ingredient.
  • Tell your doctor if you have certain heart rhythm problems (like second- or third-degree AV block) or serious heart conditions (like heart failure or a heart attack).
  • Contact your doctor right away if you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide.
  • This medicine can make you feel dizzy or cause you to fall. Be careful until you know how it affects you.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine.

  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Do not drive or use machines until you know how this medicine affects you, as it may cause dizziness or blurred vision.
