How to Use

Dosage

Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually starting with a small dose like 50 mg (5 ml) twice daily for adults, or 1 mg (0.1 ml) per kg twice daily for children under 50 kg, which will be slowly increased.

Method

Take the syrup twice a day, about 12 hours apart, preferably at the same time each day. You can take it with or without food. Use the measuring device provided.

Important

For adults and children over 50 kg, the maximum daily dose is typically 300 mg (30 ml) taken twice a day, or up to 200 mg (20 ml) twice a day if taken with other epilepsy medicines. For children under 50 kg, your doctor will set the maximum dose based on weight.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or feeling sick (nausea)
  • Seeing double
  • Muscle twitches or cramps
  • Problems with balance, walking, or coordination
  • Feeling confused or having trouble remembering things
  • Blurred vision or uncontrolled eye movements
  • Upset stomach, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea
  • Sleepiness, tiredness, or feeling weak
  • Itching or skin rash
RARE
  • Slow, fast, or irregular heartbeats
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not real (hallucinations)
  • Allergic skin rash or hives
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Thoughts of self-harm
  • Anger or agitation
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face or throat
  • Fainting or unusual, uncontrolled body movements

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to lacosamide or any other ingredients, or if you have a certain type of severe heart rhythm problem (second or third-degree AV block).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide. A small number of people taking epilepsy medicines have had such thoughts.
  • Inform your doctor if you have heart problems, such as slow, fast, or irregular heartbeats, severe heart disease, or if you've had a heart attack.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness, which increases the risk of falls. Be careful until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine.
