How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 50 mg (5 ml) twice daily, which may be gradually increased by your doctor. For children, the dose is based on weight, starting at 1 mg (0.1 ml) per kilogram twice daily.

Method

Shake the bottle well before use. Take the medicine orally using a measuring cup or syringe, with or without food, approximately every 12 hours.

Important

For adults, the maximum dose is usually 300 mg (30 ml) twice daily, for a total of 600 mg (60 ml) per day. Always follow your doctor's prescribed dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Feeling sick (nausea) or throwing up (vomiting)
  • Seeing double
  • Feeling sleepy or very tired
  • Brief muscle twitches
  • Problems with balance or coordination, difficulty walking, falling
  • Tremor (shaking), tingling, numbness, or muscle spasms
  • Memory problems, difficulty thinking or finding words, confusion
  • Fast, uncontrolled eye movements or blurred vision
  • Feeling like the room is spinning (vertigo) or feeling drunk
  • Dry mouth, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, or too much gas in your stomach/intestines
  • Reduced sensation, difficulty speaking, or problems paying attention
  • Ringing, buzzing, or whistling in the ears
  • Irritability, difficulty sleeping, or feeling depressed
  • Itching or skin rash
  • Fever (in children)
  • Runny nose (in children)
  • Sore throat (in children)
  • Decreased appetite (in children)
  • Changes in behavior or lack of energy (in children)
RARE
  • Slow heart rate, fluttering heart (palpitations), or irregular pulse
  • Feeling overly happy or seeing/hearing things that aren't there
  • Allergic reaction with hives (itchy rash)
  • Liver problems (shown in blood tests)
  • Feeling angry or agitated
  • Unusual thoughts or feeling detached from reality
  • Severe allergic reaction causing swelling of your face, throat, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
  • Fainting
  • Uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia)
  • Abnormally fast heart rate (ventricular tachycardia)
  • Sore throat, fever, and getting infections more often; blood tests may show a serious drop in certain white blood cells
  • Severe skin reactions, including fever, flu-like symptoms, rash on face, widespread rash, swollen glands (lymph nodes), blisters, and skin peeling (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Seizures (new or worsening)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to lacosamide or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have a certain type of serious heart rhythm problem (second or third-degree AV block).
  • Talk to your doctor immediately if you have thoughts of harming yourself or committing suicide.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a heart condition that affects your heart rate or if you often have a very slow, fast, or irregular heartbeat.
  • Inform your doctor if you have severe heart disease, such as heart failure, or if you have had a heart attack.

  • Be careful as this medicine may cause dizziness or make you fall, especially when you first start taking it.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
