How to Use
Dosage
The usual starting dose is 50 mg twice daily, which can be increased weekly to a maintenance dose of 100-300 mg twice daily.
Method
The medicine is given as an intravenous infusion by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic over 15-60 minutes, usually twice daily about 12 hours apart, especially if you cannot take it by mouth.
Important
The maximum allowed daily dose for adults is 600 mg.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Headache, dizziness, nausea, double vision
- •Muscle twitching, coordination problems, balance problems, tremors, tingling sensation
- •Memory problems, confusion, blurred vision, fast eye movements
- •Vomiting, dry mouth, constipation, stomach upset, diarrhea
- •Irritability, sleep problems, depression, tiredness, lack of energy, changes in behavior (especially in children)
- •Itching, rash
- •Pain, discomfort or irritation at the injection site
RARE
- •Slow or irregular heartbeat, palpitations, abnormal ECG results
- •Feeling overly happy, seeing or hearing things that are not real (hallucinations)
- •Allergic reactions like hives, liver problems
- •Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide
- •Anger, agitation, unusual thoughts, feeling disconnected from reality
- •Severe allergic reaction (swelling of face, throat, hands, feet), fainting, involuntary movements
- •Redness at injection site
Important Warnings
- If you have suicidal thoughts, contact your doctor immediately.
- Tell your doctor if you have heart problems or an irregular heartbeat.
- Be careful if you experience dizziness or falls, as the medicine may increase the risk of accidents.
- Do not stop taking the medicine without talking to your doctor first, to prevent worsening of epileptic seizures.
- Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine affects you, as it may cause dizziness or blurred vision.

- Do not consume alcohol while on Lacosamide Fresenius Kabi treatment.
- Do not use if you are allergic to lacosamide or have a specific type of heart rhythm disorder (second or third-degree AV block).
