How to Use

Method

Shake the bottle well before each dose. Take the medicine at about the same time each day.

Important

Always follow your doctor's dosing instructions. Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Insomnia
  • Headache
  • Changes in taste (dysgeusia)
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Malaise
  • Indigestion, abdominal pain
  • Abnormal blood test results (elevated liver enzyme levels)
  • Rash
  • Increased sweating
RARE
  • Severe muscle pain or weakness (rhabdomyolysis), a condition that can cause muscle tissue breakdown and kidney damage.
  • Severe skin reactions, such as blistering of the skin, mouth, lips, eyes, and genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis) or a red, scaly rash with bumps and blisters under the skin (exanthematous pustulosis).
  • Rash, difficulty breathing, fainting, or swelling of the face and throat.
  • Loss of appetite, yellow skin (jaundice), dark urine, itching, or tenderness in the abdomen (symptoms of liver damage).
  • Infections (e.g., stomach and intestinal infections, skin infections caused by infection, oral or vaginal yeast infections and other vaginal infections)
  • Decreased white blood cell count and other white blood cell related disorders
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, swelling, itching and hives)
  • Decreased appetite, loss of appetite
  • Anxiety
  • Nervousness
  • Fainting, dizziness, tremors and drowsiness
  • Tinnitus, vertigo and ear disorders
  • Weakness, chest pain, facial swelling, general malaise, pain and thirst
  • Heart rhythm changes, prolonged QT interval on ECG (abnormal ECG findings)
  • Asthma and shortness of breath
  • Nosebleed
  • Constipation, rectal pain, dry mouth, excessive gas in stomach, belching and flatulence
  • Heartburn, gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining), stomatitis (mouth inflammation), glossitis (tongue inflammation)
  • Muscle pain, muscle cramps
  • Chills, fatigue, fever
  • Bacterial infection of the superficial layers of the skin
  • Mental disorders (e.g., abnormal dreams, confusion, depersonalization, disorientation, hallucinations, psychotic disorder, depression, mania)
  • Restlessness
  • Seizures, loss of taste, abnormal sense of smell or loss of sense of smell, tingling sensation
  • Deafness
  • Ventricular fibrillation (uncoordinated contractions of the heart muscle)
  • Bleeding
  • Kidney problems (e.g., kidney inflammation, blood in urine)
  • Acute pancreatitis (upper abdominal pain radiating to the back, possibly with loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting)
  • Discoloration of tongue and teeth
  • Acne
  • Low blood counts (symptoms may include paleness and fatigue) and low levels of certain infection-fighting blood elements (symptoms may include sore throat, fever, severe nausea, easy bruising, and bleeding)
  • Muscle weakness

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to clarithromycin, other similar antibiotics, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are taking certain other medications that can cause serious heart rhythm problems or other severe issues. Talk to your doctor if you are taking other medicines.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy.
  • If you experience severe or prolonged diarrhea during or after using this medicine, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D
