How to Use

  • Unusual results in blood tests (like liver enzymes)
  • Skin rash
  • Sweating more than usual
RARE
  • Severe or long-lasting diarrhea with blood or mucus. Stop taking Klacid and call your doctor right away.
  • Rash, trouble breathing, fainting, or swelling of your face or throat (signs of a serious allergic reaction). Stop taking Klacid and call your doctor right away.
  • Loss of appetite, yellow skin (jaundice), dark urine, itching, or tenderness in your stomach area (signs of liver problems). Stop taking Klacid and call your doctor right away.
  • Serious skin reactions like blisters on your skin, mouth, lips, eyes, or genitals, or a red, peeling rash with bumps and blisters under the skin. These are very serious and need urgent medical help.
  • Muscle pain or weakness that can be a sign of a severe muscle condition (rhabdomyolysis) which may lead to kidney damage. Call your doctor right away.
  • Infections like stomach, gut, skin, mouth, or vaginal yeast infections.
  • Changes in blood cells (like white blood cells), which can affect how your body fights infection.
  • Feeling anxious or nervous.
  • Fainting, dizziness, shaking, or feeling sleepy.
  • Ringing in the ears, feeling dizzy (vertigo), or other ear problems.
  • Weakness, chest pain, swollen face, general unwell feeling, pain, or thirst.
  • Changes in heart rhythm or abnormal heart readings on an ECG.
  • Asthma or shortness of breath.
  • Nosebleed.
  • Constipation, pain in the rectal area, dry mouth, lots of gas, burping, or bloating.
  • Heartburn, stomach lining inflammation (gastritis), mouth inflammation (stomatiitti), or tongue inflammation (glossitis).
  • Muscle pain or cramps.
  • Chills, feeling tired, or fever.
  • Bacterial infection of the skin surface.
  • Mental changes like strange dreams, confusion, feeling unreal, not knowing where you are, seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), severe mental issues (psychotic disorders), sadness (depression), or extreme high moods (mania).
  • Feeling restless.
  • Seizures, complete loss of taste, abnormal or lost sense of smell, or tingling feelings.
  • Deafness.
  • Fast, uncontrolled heartbeats (ventricular fibrillation).
  • Bleeding.
  • Kidney problems, like kidney inflammation or blood in your urine.
  • Sudden inflammation of the pancreas (severe upper belly pain that goes to your back, with possible loss of appetite, feeling sick, or vomiting).
  • Tongue or teeth changing color.
  • Acne.
  • Low blood counts (making you look pale or feel tired) or low levels of certain infection-fighting blood cells (causing sore throat, fever, severe sickness, or easy bruising/bleeding).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Klacid if you are allergic to clarithromycin, other similar antibiotics (macrolides), or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take Klacid if you are using medicines for migraines (like ergotamine), anxiety/sleep (midazolam), or certain medicines for allergies, stomach problems, or mental health, as these combinations can cause serious heart problems.
  • Do not take Klacid if you are taking other medicines known to cause serious heart rhythm problems.
  • Do not take Klacid if you are taking ticagrelor, ivabradine, or ranolazine (medicines for chest pain, heart attack, or stroke).
  • Do not take Klacid if you have very low potassium or magnesium levels in your blood.

  • Do not take Klacid if you are taking medicines to lower cholesterol, such as lovastatin, simvastatin, or medicines containing lomitapide.
  • Do not take Klacid if you have severe liver or kidney problems.
  • Do not take Klacid if you have or have had certain heart rhythm disorders, like an abnormal heartbeat shown on an ECG (heart test).
  • Do not take Klacid if you are taking colchicine (a medicine for gout).
  • Always finish all your medicine, even if you feel better. Stopping early can make the infection come back stronger.
  • These tablets are not for children under 12 years old. Children usually need liquid medicine.
  • Klacid can make you feel dizzy. If you feel dizzy, do not drive or use machines.
  • If you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
