How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your starting dose individually; the usual daily maintenance dose is between 150 mg and 800 mg.

Method

Take tablets once or twice a day, swallow whole with water, with or without food.

Important

The usual maximum dose is 800 mg per day, as directed by your doctor.

  • Dizziness

  • Abnormal muscle movements (difficulty starting, shaking, restlessness)
  • Fast heartbeat

  • Swelling in hands or feet
  • Low blood pressure when standing (dizziness, faintness)
  • Blurred vision
  • Abnormal dreams, nightmares
  • Increased appetite
  • Irritability
  • Speech and language problems
  • Shortness of breath
  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Swollen breasts or unexpected milk discharge (in men and women), missed or irregular periods (in women)
RARE
  • High fever, sweating, stiff muscles, severe sleepiness or weakness (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome)
  • Yellow skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Long-lasting, painful erection
  • Blood clots, especially in legs (swelling, pain, redness); can lead to chest pain, breathing difficulty if traveling to lungs.
  • Sleepwalking, sleep talking, sleep eating
  • Low body temperature (hypothermia)
  • Pancreatitis
  • Bowel obstruction
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock) with breathing difficulties or shock
  • Severe blistering skin rash, including in the mouth, eyes, or genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • Widespread skin peeling (Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, TEN)
  • Flu-like symptoms, rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes (DRESS syndrome)
  • Small pus-filled blisters on red skin (Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis, AGEP)
  • Red, itchy, irregular patches on the skin (Erythema multiforme)
  • Heart muscle disease
  • Heart muscle inflammation
  • Blood vessel inflammation with red or purple rash (vasculitis)
  • Muscle pain and damage (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Allergic reactions (hives, swelling of skin, mouth)
  • Restless legs
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Uncontrolled movements (face, tongue)
  • Sexual problems
  • Diabetes
  • Slow heart rate, low blood pressure, fainting
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Stuffy nose
  • Confusion

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to quetiapine or any other ingredient.
  • Do not take if you are taking certain medicines for HIV, azole antifungals, erythromycin, clarithromycin, or nefazodone.
  • Inform your doctor about any heart problems you or your family have had, or if you are taking medicines that affect your heart rhythm.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure, liver problems, or a history of seizures (epilepsy).
  • Inform your doctor if you have had a stroke, especially if you are elderly.

  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes or a risk of getting it; blood sugar levels will be checked.
  • Elderly patients with dementia should not take Ketipinor due to increased risk of stroke or death.
  • Inform your doctor if you or your family have a history of blood clots.
  • If you experience suicidal thoughts or worsening depression, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Do not stop taking Ketipinor suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this can cause withdrawal symptoms.
  • Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking Ketipinor, as it can affect how the medicine works.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Sedative. For treatment of psychosis only. Inappropriate as a hypnotic. Increases the risk of cardiovascular events, QT prolongation and orthostatic hypotension. Increases risk of falls, extrapyramidal symptoms and cognitive impairment. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 15.1.2024)
