How to Use

Dosage

Method

This medicine is given as a slow injection into a vein or muscle, or as an infusion.

The maximum daily dose is decided by the specialist based on your individual needs.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Emergence reactions after anesthesia, such as vivid dreams, nightmares, dizziness, and motor restlessness.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Temporary increase in heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Effects on breathing during anesthesia.
  • Nausea, vomiting, and increased salivation.
RARE
  • Increased body movements (e.g., muscle twitching) resembling convulsions, increased eye movements.
  • Double vision, increased eye pressure.
  • Rash.
  • Pain and/or redness at the injection site.
  • Severe allergic reactions.
  • Irregular or slow heart rate.
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Hallucinations, dysphoria, anxiety, and disorientation.
  • Abnormal liver function tests and liver damage.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to esketamine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if increased blood pressure or pressure inside your head poses a severe risk to you.
  • Do not use if you have angina (chest pain) or a heart condition, especially if Ketanest-S would be the only anesthetic.
  • Do not use if you have eclampsia or pre-eclampsia (pregnancy complications involving high blood pressure or seizures).
  • Do not use this medicine at the same time as xanthine derivatives or ergometrine (used to start labor).

  • Tell your doctor if you have a weak heart or untreated high blood pressure.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high pressure inside your head or a brain/spinal cord injury/disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you are having eye surgery where eye pressure should not increase.
  • Tell your doctor if you are under the influence of alcohol.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had serious mental health problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an untreated overactive thyroid gland.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of drug abuse or addiction.
  • You must not eat for 4-6 hours before anesthesia.
  • Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours after receiving this medicine.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery for at least 24 hours after receiving this medicine, as it can slow down your reactions.
