Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Hallucinations, strange dreams, nightmares, feeling restless, confusion, unusual behavior
  • Increased body movements (like muscle twitches) that can look like seizures, and increased eye movements
  • Double vision
  • Increased blood pressure and a fast heartbeat
  • Faster breathing
  • Nausea, vomiting, and increased saliva
  • Skin redness, rash that looks like measles
RARE
  • Loss of appetite
  • Anxiety
  • Increased eye pressure
  • Irregular or slow heartbeat
  • Low blood pressure
  • Breathing problems, muscle spasms in the throat
  • Rash
  • Increased muscle stiffness
  • Pain and/or rash at the injection site
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Delirium, flashbacks, numbness, trouble sleeping, feeling disoriented (confused about time and place)
  • Lung disease, shortness of breath

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to ketamine or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not use if very high blood pressure is a serious risk for you.
  • Do not use if you have eclampsia or pre-eclampsia (a pregnancy problem with high blood pressure).
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, low blood volume, or are dehydrated.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure or a fast heartbeat.

  • Do not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours after receiving this medicine.
  • Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours after receiving this medicine.
  • Do not eat or drink for 4-6 hours before your procedure.
  • If you have day surgery, you must not go home alone.
