How to Use

Dosage

Adults and children over 6 years weighing over 30 kg: 1–4 grams daily, divided into 2–4 doses. Children under 6 years weighing under 30 kg: 25–50 mg (up to 100 mg) per kilogram of body weight daily, divided into 2–4 doses.

Method

Take the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take doses regularly and plan them to fit your daily routine. Finish the entire course of treatment, even if symptoms disappear, and tablets can be divided.

Important

Adults: 4 grams. Children (under 30 kg): 100 mg per kilogram of body weight.

  • Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)
  • Low white blood cell count (neutropenia, agranulocytosis)
  • Anemia due to red blood cell breakdown (hemolytic anemia)
  • Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction)
  • Toxic psychosis
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Inflammation of the mouth
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Bowel inflammation (pseudomembranous colitis)
  • Bowel obstruction (paralytic ileus)
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Severe skin diseases (e.g., Lyell's syndrome, Pemphigus vulgaris, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, widespread peeling rash with fever and blisters)
  • Joint inflammation (arthritis)
  • Kidney inflammation with blood in urine (interstitial nephritis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to cefalexin, other similar antibiotics (cephalosporins), or other ingredients. Also, do not use if you've had a severe allergic reaction to other antibiotics like penicillin.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had a bad rash, peeling skin, blisters, or mouth sores after taking this or other antibiotics. If these happen while taking Kefexin, stop the medicine and call your doctor right away.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney problems or an inflamed bowel (colitis).
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a baby, ask your doctor for advice. If your baby gets a rash or allergy symptoms while you are breastfeeding, stop Kefexin and breastfeeding immediately, and call your doctor.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take. Some medicines, like those for gout (probenecid), diabetes (metformin), blood thinners (warfarin), or certain other antibiotics (tetracyclines), can change how Kefexin works or cause side effects.

  • Kefexin contains lactose (a type of sugar). If your doctor told you that you cannot tolerate certain sugars, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients
