How to Use

Dosage

For prevention, take one 1g tablet twice a day. For low potassium treatment, the dose depends on your potassium level, usually two 1g tablets twice a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with at least one glass of water. Do not lie down or take them right before going to sleep.

Important

The maximum daily dose for treatment of low potassium is typically four 1g tablets (4g total).

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • High blood potassium levels.
  • Tears, bleeding, ulcers, blockages, or narrowings in the digestive tract.
  • Stomach ulcers.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Stomach pain.
  • Nausea.
  • Various skin rashes.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to potassium chloride or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have high potassium levels in your blood (hyperkalemia) or any other condition that can cause it.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney failure.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have blockages or narrowings in your food pipe (esophagus) or gut (intestines).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have untreated Addison's disease (a problem with your adrenal glands).

  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 18 years old.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart or kidney disease; your potassium levels will need regular checks.
  • Be careful if you are elderly, as you might have a higher risk of heart or kidney problems.
  • Be careful if you have kidney or adrenal gland problems, severe dehydration, or large tissue damage (like serious burns), as these can increase the risk of high potassium.
  • Tell your doctor if you take medicines that slow down your bowel movements.
  • There is a risk of blockages, damage, ulcers, bleeding, or tears in your gut, especially if you don't drink enough water or if your bowel movements are slow. Be especially careful if you are bedridden or pregnant.
  • Stop taking this medicine if you feel sick (nausea), vomit, or have stomach pain.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially those that can increase potassium levels (like certain water pills or blood pressure medicines), as taking them with Kaliumklorid Sandoz can make your potassium levels too high.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
