Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Severe diarrhea
  • Dehydration (fluid loss) due to diarrhea
  • Inflammation of the mouth or gut lining (can be life-threatening)
  • Reduced number of blood cells (can be life-threatening)
  • Redness and swelling on palms or soles, possibly leading to skin peeling (hand-foot syndrome)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (sudden itchy rash, swelling of hands, feet, face, or throat, difficulty breathing, feeling faint). Seek urgent medical help.
  • Fever
  • Increased seizures in people with epilepsy
  • Depression
  • Agitation (restlessness)
  • Gastrointestinal problems (stomach or gut issues)
  • Sleep problems (insomnia)
  • Increased ammonia levels in the blood

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to calcium folinate or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have anemia caused by a lack of vitamin B12 (like pernicious anemia or megaloblastic anemia).
  • Tell your doctor if you are receiving 5-fluorouracil, especially if you are elderly or unwell, as this medicine can increase its side effects like infections, mouth sores, or severe diarrhea.
  • Tell your doctor if you have epilepsy and take anti-epileptic medicines, as this medicine may increase your seizures.
  • Do not use if you have large red blood cells (macrocytosis) caused by other cancer medicines.

  • If you take this medicine with 5-fluorouracil, avoid driving or using machines due to possible dizziness, drowsiness, vision problems, and nausea.
