How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually take 1 tablet 1 to 3 times a day. Children aged 6-10 take 1 tablet daily, and children 11 and older take 1 tablet twice a day.

Method

You can swallow the tablet whole, split it, or crush it.

Important

Do not take more than 1500 mg of calcium (3 tablets) per day.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • High calcium levels in your blood or urine.
  • Constipation.
  • Bloating or gas.
  • Nausea.
  • Stomach pain.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Itching.
  • Rash.
  • Hives (itchy red welts on the skin).
  • Milk-alkali syndrome (symptoms include frequent urination, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, unusual tiredness, weakness, high blood calcium, and kidney problems).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to calcium or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have too much calcium in your blood or urine.
  • Do not take if you have kidney stones or calcium buildup in your tissues.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you take high doses of calcium, especially with vitamin D.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have osteoporosis and cannot move much (are bedridden).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have had kidney stones in the past.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are elderly and take certain heart medicines (cardiac glycosides) or diuretics (water pills).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Medications decreasing gastric acidity reduce the absorption of calcium. Take the several interactions in the absorption phase into account. (updated 10.6.2024)
