How to Use

Dosage

Two implants are inserted.

Method

A doctor places the two small rods under the skin on the inside of your upper arm in a quick procedure with local numbing.

Important

The implants work for a maximum of 5 years.

Possible Side Effects

  • Irregular menstrual bleeding (periods may be longer, shorter, lighter, heavier, more or less frequent, or you may have spotting between periods; some women may miss periods entirely)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Jadelle if you are allergic to levonorgestrel or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use Jadelle if you have unusual bleeding from your vagina.
  • Do not use Jadelle if you have or suspect breast cancer or cancer of the womb lining.
  • Do not use Jadelle if you have severe liver disease, until your liver is working normally again.
  • Do not use Jadelle if you have or have had a liver tumor (benign or cancerous).

  • Do not use Jadelle if you have a blood clot in your legs, lungs, or eyes.
  • Jadelle implants do not protect against HIV (AIDS) or other sexually transmitted infections.
  • Contact your doctor if you think you might be pregnant.
  • Contact your doctor if you have heavy vaginal bleeding.
  • Contact your doctor if your skin or eyes turn yellow.
  • Contact your doctor if you feel a lump or lumps in your breast.
  • Contact your doctor if you have pain, pus, or bleeding where the implants were put in.
  • Contact your doctor if an implant comes out of your skin.
  • Contact your doctor if you have migraines or more migraine attacks.
  • Contact your doctor if you have persistent headaches or vision problems, especially if you are overweight or have gained weight recently.
  • Contact your doctor if you have sudden headaches or vomiting, dizziness or fainting, trouble seeing or speaking, weakness, or numbness in an arm or leg.
  • Contact your doctor if you have calf pain or unusual swelling in an arm or leg.
  • Contact your doctor if you have sharp chest pain, sudden trouble breathing, or cough up blood.
  • Contact your doctor if you have severe chest pain or a feeling of pressure in your chest.
  • Contact your doctor if you have severe stomach pain or tenderness in your belly.
  • If your period is more than 2 weeks late after a regular cycle, make sure you are not pregnant.
  • The implants must be removed after 5 years, as they become less effective.
  • If you weigh over 60 kg, your doctor may suggest removing and replacing the implants after 4 years instead of 5.
