How to Use

Dosage

The typical dose is 200 micrograms of ivermectin per kilogram of body weight.

Method

Take all prescribed tablets at once with water on an empty stomach. Do not eat anything two hours before or after taking the medicine. For children under 6, crush tablets before swallowing.

Important

This medicine is typically taken as a single dose as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor may prescribe a second dose if needed, particularly for scabies.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Red, flat patches on the body (like targets or rings, with blisters in the middle); peeling skin, sores in the mouth, throat, nose, genitals, and eyes.
  • Sudden fever, sudden skin reaction (like rash or itching), other severe skin reactions, breathing difficulties.
  • Loss of consciousness or coma.
  • Liver disease (acute hepatitis).
  • Changes in some lab test values (increased liver enzymes, bilirubin, eosinophils).
  • Blood in urine.
COMMON
  • Unusual weakness, fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness or light-headedness.
  • Headache.
  • Loss of appetite, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting.
  • Muscle or joint pain, shaking or tremors.
  • Sweating, fever, or chills.
  • Low blood pressure when standing up, causing dizziness or faintness.
  • Cough or sore throat.
  • Discomfort when breathing.
  • Swelling, especially in lymph nodes, hands, ankles, or feet.
  • Testicular pain or discomfort.
  • Itching or rash (may worsen at the start of treatment for scabies but usually doesn't last long).
  • Rapid heartbeat.
  • Vision changes, eye problems (like infection, redness, bleeding in the whites of the eyes), or swollen eyelids.
  • Worsened asthma.
  • Abnormal brain function, changes in mental state, confusion.
  • Neck or back pain.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Urinary or fecal incontinence.
  • Difficulty standing or walking.
  • Decreased white blood cells (leukopenia).
  • Decreased red blood cells or hemoglobin (anemia).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to ivermectin or any other ingredient in the tablets.
  • Stop using the medicine and seek immediate medical help if you get a severe skin reaction (like a target-shaped rash, peeling skin, blisters) or signs of an allergic reaction (sudden fever, breathing difficulties).
  • Tell your doctor if you have a weakened immune system, a problem with your blood-brain barrier, or if you live or have lived in areas of Africa where Loa loa (eye worm) infection is common.
  • This medicine is not safe for children weighing less than 15 kg.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel dizzy, drowsy, shaky, or light-headed after taking this medicine.
