How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose. Typically, the dose is 120 mg or 240 mg, taken 1–2 times a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with liquid, preferably with a meal or shortly after. Do not chew or crush them. The 240 mg tablet can be divided in half.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 480 mg (two 240 mg tablets).

  • Small red spots on the skin (purpura)
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Severe skin reactions (like erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema)
  • Breast enlargement in men, breast milk leakage, increased prolactin levels
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Gum overgrowth
  • Increased sweating
  • Tremor
  • High potassium levels in blood (hyperkalemia)
  • Tightening of airways (bronchospasm)
  • Shortness of breath

  • Allergic reactions
  • Nerve-related symptoms (extrapyramidal symptoms)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to verapamil or any of its other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have very low blood pressure, severe heart problems (like cardiogenic shock, certain irregular heartbeats without a pacemaker, or severe heart failure), or if you are taking ivabradine.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have had a recent heart attack, heart failure, liver or kidney problems, a very slow heart rate (under 50 beats per minute), or low blood pressure (systolic pressure under 90 mmHg).
  • This medicine might make you feel dizzy or tired, which can affect your ability to drive or use machines, especially at the start of treatment or if you drink alcohol.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Use only in special cases. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. May exacerbate heart failure. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia, constipation, heart failure and swelling. Consider the numerous potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 17.2.2025)
