How to Use

Dosage

The doctor will decide your dose based on your weight, age, and the part of your body being examined; it is usually a single dose, but can be repeated if needed.

Method

Iomeron is given by qualified healthcare staff in a hospital by injection into an artery, a vein, the spinal fluid in the spine, or into body cavities.

Important

The hospital or clinic where you receive Iomeron is equipped to manage any effects of an overdose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling of warmth
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Back and limb pain
  • Pain, discomfort, or warmth at the injection site
RARE
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Rash, itching, or hives
  • Chest pain
  • Fainting or feeling faint
  • Slow, fast, or irregular heartbeat
  • Decreased blood pressure
  • Weakness, stiffness, or fever
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., increased creatinine, low platelets, anemia)
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., severe breathing problems, dizziness)
  • Severe skin reactions with blisters or peeling skin (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • Brain problems (e.g., confusion, memory loss, vision problems, paralysis, seizures, unconsciousness)
  • Overactive or underactive thyroid (especially in young children)
  • Sudden narrowing of blood vessels (vasospasm)
  • Stroke-like symptoms, coma, or brain swelling
  • Temporary blindness or eye inflammation
  • Heart attack, heart failure, or blood clots in the heart
  • Circulatory collapse or shock
  • Respiratory arrest or fluid in the lungs
  • Swelling of the throat or airways, asthma, cough, hoarseness
  • Pancreatitis, bowel problems (e.g., diarrhea, abdominal pain), or swallowing difficulty
  • Acute kidney failure
  • Unconsciousness or feeling of leg paralysis
  • Increased sweating
  • Pelvic pain and nausea after certain examinations
  • Local irritation or malaise at the injection site

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Iomeron if you are allergic to jomeprol or any other ingredient in this medicine, or if you have a severe thyroid disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have allergies, asthma, or have had reactions to similar tests before.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had severe skin rashes, blistering, or mouth sores after receiving iodine-containing contrast agents.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking blood pressure medication (beta-blockers).
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience signs of a temporary brain disorder (encephalopathy) such as headache, vision problems, confusion, or seizures.
