How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your age, condition, and the procedure. For adults, typical doses range from 5 ml to 40 ml gel, depending on the area being treated.

Method

This gel is usually given by a doctor or nurse. If you are using it yourself, follow your doctor's instructions carefully. You will insert the syringe tip into the urethra or rectum and slowly push the plunger to apply the gel. Wait 5-15 minutes for the numbing effect to begin.

Important

Do not use more than 800 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride per day (which is about 40 ml of gel for adults), or 20 ml for bladder inflammation. For children and specific patient groups, the maximum dose is 2.9 mg lidocaine hydrochloride per kg body weight.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Swelling of hands, feet, face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath (bronchospasm)
  • Skin problems like itching, rash, or hives
  • Low blood pressure and shock
  • Irritation at the application site

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Instillido if you are allergic to lidocaine or other local anesthetics of the 'amide type,' or any other ingredients in this medicine. It should not be used in children under 2 years old.
  • Tell your doctor if you have wounds, injuries, or inflammation where the gel will be used, or if you have severe liver, kidney, heart, or breathing problems, seizures, or certain blood or muscle disorders.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially other lidocaine-containing products or medicines for irregular heart rhythm, as these can increase the risk of side effects.
  • If you apply too much gel or if the treated area is damaged, more lidocaine might enter your bloodstream, which can cause serious side effects. Signs of overdose can include hearing/vision problems, dizziness, or nausea. Contact a doctor immediately if you notice these signs.
