How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your specific dose.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous) once a day, as instructed by your doctor or nurse. Do not inject it into a muscle or vein.

Important

Your doctor will determine your daily dose and how long you should take the medicine, usually for at least 6 days and up to 6 months.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Injection site reactions (pain, itching, swelling, bruising)
  • Bleeding
  • Redness
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count)
RARE
  • Angioedema (swelling of the face, tongue, or throat; difficulty swallowing; hives and difficulty breathing)
  • Severe allergic skin reactions with blisters or sores in the mouth, eyes, or genital area
  • Increased or decreased number of platelets (small cells that help blood clot)
  • Hypersensitivity (allergic reaction)
  • Bruises
  • Temporary liver problems
  • Rashes
  • Skin inflammation
  • Itching
  • Hives
  • Skin necrosis (tissue death at the injection site)
  • Osteoporosis (thinning of bones)
  • High potassium levels in the blood
  • Painful prolonged erection

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you have an increased risk of bleeding, a bacterial heart infection, a brain bleed, or a bleeding stomach ulcer.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to tinzaparin (the active substance) or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • If you have an epidural or spinal anesthesia or a spinal tap, you must stop using Innohep at least 24 hours before the procedure. Do not restart treatment until 4-6 hours after the procedure.
  • Do not inject Innohep into a muscle. Do not inject other medicines into a muscle at the same time, due to risk of bruising.
  • If you have epidural or spinal anesthesia and are using Innohep, you should be monitored for muscle weakness or numbness.
