How to Use

Dosage

One 0.5 ml dose for adults and children 6 months and older.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give the vaccine as an injection into a muscle or deep under the skin.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON

RARE
  • Serious allergic reactions (shock or severe swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat) that require urgent medical attention.
  • Skin reactions that can spread over the body, including itching, hives, and rash.
  • Inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis) which may cause skin rashes and, very rarely, temporary kidney problems.
  • Nerve pain, tingling or numbness, seizures with fever, stiff neck, confusion, weakness or paralysis in parts of the body (like Guillain-Barré syndrome).
  • Temporary decrease in blood cells called platelets, which can lead to more bruising or bleeding; temporary swelling of lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Influvac if you or your child are allergic to the active ingredients or any other component of the vaccine, including egg, formaldehyde, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, polysorbate 80, or gentamicin.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your child have a weak immune system or bleeding problems, or if you bruise easily.
  • If you or your child have a high fever or a serious infection, postpone vaccination until you are well again.
  • Fainting or other stress reactions can occur due to needle injection. Tell your doctor if you have had such reactions before.
  • Like all vaccines, Influvac may not fully protect everyone who gets it.
