How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one tablet. Use the smallest dose that works for you.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth right before bedtime or when you can't fall asleep naturally.

Important

Take only one dose per night. Do not take another dose during the same night.

Possible Side Effects

  • Dry mouth
  • Changes in taste (bitter taste)
  • Feeling sleepy
RARE
  • Headache
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Dizziness
  • Nightmares
  • Feeling agitated or restless
  • Tiredness
  • Confusion
  • Memory loss or problems
  • Sleepwalking or unusual actions during sleep (e.g., driving, eating, making calls, sexual activity when not fully awake)
  • Aggression, irritability, anger, or believing things that are not true (delusions)
  • Shortness of breath or slowed breathing
  • Skin rash, itching, or swelling of the face, lips, throat, or tongue (allergic reaction)
  • Falls (especially in older people)
  • Muscle weakness
  • Speech problems or seeing double
  • Dependence and withdrawal symptoms (like insomnia, muscle pain, anxiety, shaking)
  • Slight changes in liver function tests
  • Delirium (a state of severe confusion)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to Imovane or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease, severe muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep), or severe breathing problems.
  • Do not use for a long time. This medicine can lead to dependence, and treatment should be as short as possible.
  • If you have ever sleepwalked or done unusual things (like driving, eating, or making calls) after taking Imovane, talk to your doctor.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking Imovane, as it can make you too sleepy and cause breathing problems.

  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Ask your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding.
  • Do not drive or use machines, as this medicine can slow your reactions and coordination, especially if you haven't slept enough.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. For short-term use only. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. (updated 12.2.2024)
