How to Use

Dosage

Adults and children over 12 years: Start with 2 capsules, then 1 capsule after each loose bowel movement.

Method

Take the capsules whole with liquid. You can take them at any time of day.

Important

Do not take more than 8 capsules in 24 hours.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to loperamide or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not give to children under 6 years of age (or under 20 kg).
  • Do not use if you have bloody stools or high fever with diarrhea.
  • Do not use if you have severe constipation, a swollen stomach, or if your bowel movements have slowed down.
  • Stop taking Imodium if your stools become firm or hard, or if you do not have a bowel movement for 24 hours.

  • Drink plenty of fluids while you have diarrhea to prevent dehydration, especially for children.
  • Never take more than the recommended dose. Taking too much loperamide can cause serious heart problems, such as a fast or irregular heartbeat.
  • This medicine is not recommended during breastfeeding.
  • Be careful when driving or operating machinery, as diarrhea can cause tiredness, drowsiness, or dizziness.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For treatment of diarrhoea for no more than two days. Do not use for the treatment of febrile diarrhoea. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 20.5.2024)
